Dining Room
The Venue was the Salt Lake Hardware building. Taylor wanted really rich, ornate decor, so I think the contrast with this really industrial venue with exposed brick and wood beams made it still feel fresh and not too stuffy.
We brought in wood farmhouse tables with gold chiavari chairs mixing rustic with traditional elegance. The centerpieces were different urns with a mix of deep red, and eggplant floral with matte red christmas bulbs. We also peppered in a bunch of small bar height tables with black cloths and cream lace toppers to make sure the antique feel was in the dining room. They were topped with small versions of the dining centerpieces, and cranberry candle pillars. Candles were EVERYWHERE, and were very important to taylor for the "romantic" feel.
Backdrop
For the backdrop, we draped layers of sheer fabric and lace from floor to ceiling, and hung white lights behind for a warm glow. We also borrowed a bench of her grandmas. Didn't know where we were going to use it til the day of, but it really stood out in front of the backdrop...a lovely surprise!I don't know if you can see the vintage chandelier in the photo above, but we put one in the "loung", one above the cake, and one above the happy couple. Taylor wanted a very layered, warm feel, so we scattered rugs all over the place too.
Along with rugs, we had a moving truck full of furniture to bring in (on top of the rentals). We brought in 3 sofas, 3 chairs, lamps, pillows, mirrors, and this darling setee I found on ksl for $40! I put a mirror above it and it sat right in between two beautiful brick arches. This was where they handled the "Garter Business"! Beautiful!
The Cake
Taylor is all about tradition, which is why she wore her grandmothers dress, and used the cake topper that has been passed down a few generations!
The Food
Since January is so darn cold, we decided that a soup bar would be perfectly appropriate for a wedding this time of year. (not to metion friendly on the budget too!) Soup Kitchen provided the soup and breadsticks, and I rented prettier chaffing dishes, added framed soup names, lamps, flowers, put breadsticks in huge urns, and VOILA!
The Send Off
I thought this was kind of funny...the photographer caught me saying "what the heck?" to the guest who were lighting the sparklers early!!! Even adults turn into little kids when it comes to fire...so silly :)
DESIGN BOARDS
Every time I start a wedding, I talk to the bride to determine the overall "feel" or personality they want for the wedding. I create design boards for each area of the reception, then present it to them to make sure we are on the same page...then we get to work making it all happen! The "feel" Taylor wanted (according to my interpretation) was antique, traditional, rustic, vintage, rich, sparkly, romantic, candle lit, golds, deep reds, eggplant, and black, lace, pearls, crystal.
